What a day! First, we spend the morning in Wascana park setting up nets, sneeking up on geese, and banding tiny yellow warblers. Then we return to the school only to fill the senior wing of the school with the sounds of humpback whales with motion sickness!
Actually, this was a very exciting afternoon! Mr. Hoffman and Ms. Skoczylas from the Balfour Collegiate band program joined us to test out instruments that would best suit us for Grade 6 band. Students tried out the mouthpieces for intruments like clarinet, flute, trumpet, and trombone, and some of the students got to make some REAL noise when they were attached to the instrument itself!
Grade 6 band can be an exciting experience for students! First of all, they are learning to play a new instrument, but there are other benefits as well, such as meeting new friends, performing in front of others, becoming more organized and responsible with their time, property, and schedule. I would recommend this program to any Grade 6 student!
